Daintree and Cape Tribulation Day Tours from Cairns and Port Douglas (2026): Ten Compared and Ranked

The smallest group on this page, capped at 10, and the highest-rated on the platforms we read. It covers Mossman Gorge with morning tea at the visitor centre, a Daintree River cruise, the ferry, lunch at Heritage Lodge with a swim in Cooper Creek, an ice cream stop and Cape Tribulation beach. The operator describes the day as running from Mossman Gorge to Cape Tribulation beach.

It is also the widest gap between our link and the operator: A$279 here against A$259 booked direct, which the operator backs with a best-rate promise. It only collects in Port Douglas, so from Cairns you would need to get there first.

Best for: Couples staying in Port Douglas who want the smallest group and will book direct.

The most reviewed Daintree tour on any platform we read, and one whose name undersells it. The platform lists it as 'Daintree Rainforest, Mossman Gorge', but the operator's own page is plain that it crosses the Daintree River on the cable ferry and goes to Alexandra Lookout and Cape Tribulation beach. The day also includes a guided walk at Mossman Gorge of about 40 minutes, a Daintree River cruise and morning tea. Lunch and a swim are at Noah Valley, a World Heritage-listed private rainforest property north of the river, which the operator says is 15 minutes' drive from Cape Tribulation. That private-property access is the difference from every other tour here.

It runs from Port Douglas only, with two departure times, and needs a minimum of two adults to go. The operator's FAQ says national park fees, the ferry, the private property fee, lunch, morning tea and the cruise are all covered; the ice cream is the one thing you pay for on the day.

Best for: Port Douglas visitors who want the fullest itinerary with a quieter lunch stop than the usual cafes.

This is a social day out that happens to go to Cape Tribulation. It is not a nature tour with a younger crowd on it. Uncle Brian's has run backpacker trips out of Cairns since 1995, and its own booking engine lists this tour for ages 18 to 35 (the website says 18 and over). The bus takes up to 30. The day is built around music, beach games and a swim with a rope swing at Mason's rainforest swimming hole, with a Daintree River croc cruise, the ferry, the Jindalba boardwalk, Alexandra Lookout and a walk on Cape Tribulation beach along the way. Lunch is burgers at Mason's Cafe.

What it leaves out is Mossman Gorge, which the operator's own itinerary never mentions, even though some resellers' pages claim a gorge swim. Booked direct it is A$237 on unclebrians.com.au, against A$249 at our link.

Best for: Solo travellers and backpackers under 36 who want a fun, social day with a swim at the end of the road.

The listing on the booking platform says 'Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge', and the supplier name is Experience Daintree Pty Ltd. On its own website, daintreetours.com, this is the Mossman Gorge and Cape Tribulation day: Mossman Gorge, the ferry, morning tea, guided walks, a lunch at Heritage Lodge, an ice cream stop and Alexandra Lookout, in a Mercedes Sprinter capped at 14.

Two things are different from the rest of the page. The croc cruise is on Cooper Creek, not the Daintree River; the operator says it is the only tour boat permitted in the Cape Tribulation section, so you see a different waterway from everyone else. And the operator's terms say Daintree Tours is a Reef Unlimited experience, part of the Experience Co family, the group that also owns the Reef Magic and Calypso reef cruises.

Best for: Port Douglas visitors who have done or will do a Daintree River cruise and want a quieter creek instead.

The one tour that starts with a zoo. The morning is a private tour of Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas with cafe-style morning tea, then the cable ferry, lunch at Mason's Cafe, a swim at a freshwater swimming hole, free time on Cape Tribulation beach, a Daintree River cruise and an ice cream. It is the cheapest tour for a child on this page at A$165, and the wildlife park makes it the easiest sell to children.

What that costs is Mossman Gorge, which is not on the itinerary; Tropic Wings sells a separate Mossman Gorge, Daintree and Wildlife tour for the same A$259 that does not cross the river. Tropic Wings is a family business inside the CaPTA Group, running since 1981, and now runs electric coaches including Volkswagen ID. Buzz vans.

Best for: Families from Cairns who want guaranteed wildlife for the children as well as Cape Tribulation.

The small-group version of the Cairns day. It runs in a Mercedes Sprinter; the operator's FAQ calls them 14-seaters and the tour page says groups of 6 to 16. Morning tea with scones, a guided walk and optional swim at Mossman Gorge, a one-hour Daintree River cruise, the ferry, a restaurant lunch with a choice of mains and the Kulki lookout at Cape Tribulation are included. There is also a multilingual audio guide app.

It is the tour where our link costs you most against booking direct: A$283 here against A$269 on the operator's own booking engine, a A$14 gap. Discovery Tours Australia trades under Australian Adventure Group Holdings Pty Ltd.

Best for: Couples from Cairns who want a smaller vehicle and a proper sit-down lunch.

The oldest name in Daintree touring, running since 1983 and still locally owned. It is also the only tour here in a custom-built 4WD, with up to 20 people aboard. The day is the classic Cape Tribulation loop: a one-hour Daintree River cruise with tea and biscuits first, Alexandra Lookout, a guided national park boardwalk, lunch at a local cafe with a freshwater swim, Cape Tribulation beach, and the signature ice cream cup on the way home. Park fees, lunch and the ice cream are all in the price.

It skips Mossman Gorge entirely, which the itinerary makes plain. That is what makes room for the swim and the longer stretch north of the river. The platform's listing title still mentions the Bloomfield Track, but the operator's current day-tour page does not, so do not book it expecting the Bloomfield.

Best for: Travellers who want more time north of the river and a swim, and have seen Mossman Gorge or do not mind missing it.

The cheapest way to Cape Tribulation from a Cairns hotel, and the only tour that has lunch on Cape Tribulation beach itself. Owner-operators Jeremy Forward and Kyoko Kambe have run it since 2001. The day takes in Mossman Gorge with a swim, a crocodile-spotting cruise, the ferry, a guided rainforest walk and the beach. You choose between the self-catering fare at A$199 and the picnic-lunch fare at A$219; there is no shop or restaurant on the route, so self-catering means bringing your own.

Two things to know. It does not run on Saturdays: the platform's schedule has no Saturday departures, and neither did the operator's own October calendar, although its website says 'daily'. And the operator's site says it cannot stop at Alexandra Lookout until two lanes are reinstated over the Alexandra Range.

Best for: Budget travellers from Cairns who would rather picnic on the beach than eat in a cafe.

The only tour on this page that starts with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony with the Kuku Yalanji at Mossman Gorge, followed by a swim in the gorge. The Mossman Gorge coach transfers are included, which is not true of every tour here. Then comes the Daintree River wildlife cruise, the ferry, lunch at Cape Tribulation and time at the beach.

Active Tropics Explorer trades as Enjoy2Day Pty Ltd and, by its own packages page, is part of the Cairns Adventure Group, the O'Keefe Street business behind Raging Thunder, Foaming Fury and Waterfall Wanderers. Its booking engine sells 14 seats a departure on a Yutong coach.

Best for: Travellers who want the cultural welcome at Mossman Gorge and a swim there as part of the day.

The most complete itinerary on this page and the dearest. Mossman Gorge with the Visitor Centre shuttle and entry paid, morning tea at the Mossman Gorge Centre, a one-hour Daintree River cruise, lunch at Heritage Lodge, a walk on Cape Tribulation beach, Alexandra Lookout and a Daintree Ice Cream Company tasting cup are all in the fare. Nothing on the day is extra except drinks. It is also the only tour here with a GPS commentary in six languages besides English, which the platform listing names as German, French, Italian, Spanish, Mandarin and Japanese.

The trade-off is the vehicle. This is a full-size coach with several steps, not a van, so you move at the pace of the group and board and leave the vehicle many times. Down Under Tours has run since 1990; when we checked its careers page for our Kuranda ranking on 12 September 2026 it described itself as part of The Travel Corporation, the group behind AAT Kings.

Best for: First-timers from Cairns who want every standard stop included and do not mind a big coach.
