Australian Experiences ranks the country's tours and experiences using the public record of what real travellers actually said, not what operators pay to promote. Every ranking is computed, published with its method, and re-checked on a schedule.
Why this site exists
If you search for the best reef trip out of Cairns or the best overnight sailing boat in the Whitsundays, most of what you find is one of two things: a booking platform sorting by what earns it the most, or a single writer's account of a single trip they took once. Neither tells you which operator is consistently good.
There is a better source sitting in plain sight. Thousands of travellers have already reviewed these operators on Google, Tripadvisor and Viator. Nobody was aggregating that properly, per experience, with the maths done honestly. So we did.
How a ranking is built
We pull star ratings and review volumes through official partner APIs, weight them so a 5.0 from twelve reviews cannot beat a 4.8 from six thousand, and map the result to a single AE Score out of 100. The full method is published, including the parts that are judgement calls.
Where an operator does not have enough independent, verified reviews of its own, we do not invent a number, borrow a parent agency's, or scrape one. We label the listing an Editor's assessment and say plainly that its position is our editorial call rather than a computed score.
How we make money
Some of the booking links on this site are affiliate links. If you book through one, the operator or booking platform pays us a commission. You pay exactly the same price either way.
That is the entire business model. We do not sell placements, we do not run display advertising, and we do not accept payment to review, add, move or remove an operator.
- Rankings are never for sale. No operator can pay to be listed or re-ranked.
- Commissions never touch the maths. The AE Score is computed before any commercial consideration, from review data alone.
- We rank operators we earn nothing from. Several listings on this site carry no commission at all, because leaving out the best option would make the ranking worthless.
- When an operator's reviews slip, so does its rank, automatically.
Who writes this
Australian Experiences is published by GB Ecommerce Pty Ltd, an Australian company, and edited by Nathan Barrie. Rankings are generated by our own scoring engine from partner review data; the written analysis, the shortlisting and the editorial assessments are ours.
We are not a booking agent and we do not operate tours. Your booking contract is always with the operator or the platform you book through, and their terms, cancellation policy and safety obligations apply, not ours.
Corrections
Prices move, boats get sold, operators close and reviews get updated. If something on this site is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will re-check the source and correct the page. Operators are welcome to write in too, including to dispute a ranking or an editorial assessment.
We correct errors of fact quickly and without argument. We do not remove or change a ranking because an operator would prefer a different one.
