We do not ask you to create an account, we do not sell data, and we collect no personal information about you directly. This policy explains the little that does happen, including the affiliate tracking that pays for the site.
Who we are
Australian Experiences is published by GB Ecommerce Pty Ltd, an Australian company. We are the entity responsible for this website under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. If you are in the UK or the EU, we act as the data controller for this site.
What we collect directly
Nothing that identifies you. There is no account, no login and no contact form on this site. If you email us, we hold your message and your email address for as long as it takes to deal with it and to keep a record of any correction we made as a result.
If we later add a newsletter, it will be opt in, we will say who sends it, and unsubscribing will be one click.
Analytics
We measure how many people read each ranking, which pages they arrive on and roughly where in the world they are, so we know what to write next. We use privacy-first analytics that do not set advertising cookies, do not fingerprint your device and do not follow you to other websites. We cannot identify an individual reader from it and we do not try.
Affiliate links and cookies
Some booking links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one, the booking platform records that the visit came from us, usually with a cookie set in your browser or an identifier appended to the link, so that any resulting booking is credited to us. You pay the same price either way, and we disclose this on every page that carries such a link.
The platforms currently involved are Viator, GetYourGuide, Travelpayouts and Impact. Once you click through, you are on their website and their privacy policy governs what they collect, not ours. We never receive your name, your contact details or your payment information from a booking. What we see is an anonymous count of clicks and completed bookings.
Third parties your browser contacts
Loading a page here causes your browser to request a handful of files from other companies. Each of those companies necessarily sees your IP address and basic browser information, because that is how the web works. We keep this list as short as we practically can, and this is the complete list:
- Cloudflare, which hosts and serves the site and keeps standard security logs.
- Google Fonts, which serves the two typefaces the site is set in.
- Google, which serves the operator photographs credited to Google on our listings.
- Tripadvisor's media network, which serves the operator photographs supplied through Viator.
- Travelpayouts, whose script attributes affiliate clicks to us.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. There is none to sell.
- We do not run display advertising or ad-network trackers.
- We do not build profiles of readers or retarget you across the internet.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Where information goes
The service providers listed above operate globally, so information handled on our behalf may be stored or processed outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. We only use providers that publish a privacy policy and commit to appropriate safeguards.
Your rights
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. In practice this will normally only be an email exchange with us. Write to us with "Privacy" in the subject line and we will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle your request, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. Readers in the UK or the EU may complain to their own supervisory authority.
Changes to this policy
If we add anything that changes what is collected, we will update this page and change the date below before the new thing goes live, not after.
