The Yarra Valley starts about an hour east of Melbourne, and every tour on this page leaves the city in the morning or at lunchtime, visits three to five cellar doors and producers, and has you back by early evening. The wineries overlap more than the brochures suggest: Yering Station, Soumah, Yering Farm, Tokar Estate, Domaine Chandon, Balgownie Estate and the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie appear on tour after tour. What differs is what you pay for on the day. We read each operator's own website and booking engine on 3 October 2026 to find out.
Lunch is the biggest divider. Four tours include a sit-down winery lunch with a glass of wine (Dancing Kangaroo, Australian Wine Tour Company, Vinetrekker and Chillout), Go West feeds you wood-fired pizza at a distillery, and the other four leave you to buy your own at Hubert Estate or Chandon, which the operators put at A$20 to A$30 and up. Tasting fees, now charged at most Yarra cellar doors, are included on every tour here except Hop It, whose ticket is transport only. Weekend surcharges are common: Teepee, Red Carpet and Dancing Kangaroo charge A$6 to A$11 more on a Saturday or Sunday, and Vinetrekker A$20 more on Sundays. Four tours are adults only.
Then there is where you book. Five of the nine are cheaper on the operator's own site than at our links, by A$10 to A$47, and each listing says by how much. The trade is cancellation terms: at our links every tour refunds in full up to 24 hours before departure, while booked direct Chillout's standard fare is non-refundable, Australian Wine Tour Company wants 48 hours, and Dancing Kangaroo keeps 5 percent even with a week's notice. Only Hop It is cheaper at our link. We also left out one tour that looks identical to another on this page, and the last FAQ explains why.

Yarra Valley All-Inclusive Grazing Tour · Wine, Cheese, Gin, Pizza, Chocolate
Go West Tours · Pickup from selected Melbourne city hotels, chosen from a list at checkout
The grazing day: one winery and four producers, with everything you taste in the fare. Rochford Wines for the wine tasting, a cheese platter at Coldstream Dairy, a gin and tonic tasting with wood-fired pizza at Stag Lane Farm Distillery, free time in Healesville, and an exclusive chocolate tasting at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie, with a Montesanto coffee along the way. The pizza is lunch; the operator suggests breakfast first and says more food is available in Healesville. Pickups are from a list of city hotels and there is a multilingual audio guide app.
It only runs three days a week, Monday, Thursday and Saturday, and the platform's schedule has gaps on some of those dates, so check your date early. Go West publishes a lower phone price than its online one, and our link matches the phone price. Go West Tours (Vic) Pty Ltd also trades as Bunyip Tours, which we confirmed on the Australian Business Register for our Great Ocean Road ranking.
What travellers loved
- Wine, cheese, gin, pizza, coffee and chocolate all included for A$189, with a child fare
- Hotel pickups rather than a meeting point
- The same price at our link as by phone direct, and A$10 less than the operator's online price
Know before you book
- Monday, Thursday and Saturday only, with some dates missing from the schedule
- One winery only: this is a food day with wine, not a four-cellar-door day
- Up to 24 guests on the operator's page
- No sit-down restaurant lunch; the pizza at the distillery is it
Best for: Groups with non-wine-drinkers, and anyone who would rather graze all day than sit through four tastings.

Yarra Valley Public Wine Tour · Soumah, St Huberts, Chocolaterie, Balgownie
Red Carpet Wine Tours · Meet outside the Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Flinders Street, opposite 154 Flinders Street; no hotel pickups
A close cousin of the Teepee day, and the second most reviewed tour here. Soumah at 10:15am, four wines at the St Huberts cellar door at 11:30am (a beer or cider if you would rather, and a gin or whisky tasting for a small fee), then lunch at Quarters at Hubert Estate where the group sits together and everyone pays for their own. If you book your own table at Chandon instead, you skip the St Huberts tasting. The afternoon is a guided tasting of ten chocolates at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie, or Yarrawood Estate at your own cost, then Balgownie Estate's tasting with a view before the 3:30pm drive back.
It is a coach rather than a van, and the operator says it often runs two vehicles a day. The price promise on its booking site is that it will beat any cheaper online price by 5 to 10 percent, and its own weekday fare of A$109 is already A$20 under A$129 at our link. The operator's terms make the public tour adults only, even though its booking engine sells a fare for anyone over 6.
What travellers loved
- Four tasting venues including a guided chocolate tasting, for A$129 on weekdays
- Non-drinkers get a non-alcoholic substitute at each stop, by the operator's page
- Runs seven days a week
Know before you book
- Lunch is at your own cost, and choosing Chandon means missing a tasting
- A$20 cheaper booked direct on weekdays than at our link
- Adults only under the operator's terms
- A coach with up to 28 seats sold per booking at our link, so it is not a small group
Best for: Travellers who want the most-reviewed style of day at the lowest fare and are happy to buy lunch.

Daily Public Group Tour · Wine, Gin or Beer, Chocolate, Buy-Your-Own Lunch
Teepee Tours · Meet at 74 Spring Street, East Melbourne, across from the Hotel Windsor above Parliament Station; no hotel pickups
The most reviewed Yarra Valley tour on any platform we read, and the one built most openly for a social day. Teepee's guides run a shared Spotify playlist, split the group when people want different stops and describe the day as a road trip with mates. The spine is fixed: wine and cider at Yering Farm at 10am, Tokar Estate at 11am, then a choice of Hubert Estate or Domaine Chandon for a lunch you pay for yourself. After lunch you choose a gin paddle at Four Pillars (the dearer option), five wines at Payten and Jones or beers at Watts River Brewery, which the operator notes is closed Monday to Wednesday. The day ends with a private chocolate tasting, or drinks at Yarrawood Estate at your own cost.
The bus is a 24-seat Mitsubishi Rosa or 21-seat Coaster, with smaller Toyota Commuters on quieter days; the booking engine caps a departure at 23 and the operator says to expect about 22. Booked direct it is A$110.73 with fees against A$129 at our link, an A$18 gap that widens to A$29 at weekends. Teepee Tours Pty Ltd says it has been in business for more than 12 years and is an accredited tour operator.
What travellers loved
- Tastings at four venues, including a Four Pillars gin paddle if you choose it, for A$129 on weekdays
- Choices at three stops, with the group split if needed, and a shared playlist
- Child fare for ages 0 to 17 at our link and direct
Know before you book
- Lunch is not included; budget A$20 to A$30 at Hubert Estate or more at Chandon
- A$18 cheaper booked direct than at our link, A$29 at weekends
- Up to 23 on a minibus, and the operator's own page says the itinerary is the least conventional here
- Not wheelchair accessible, and no strollers or luggage on the bus
Best for: Solo travellers and groups of friends who want a social day with choices, and do not need lunch included.

The Epic Yarra Valley Wine Day · Four Tastings and Winery Lunch, Max 20
Dancing Kangaroo Tours · Meet in front of the Arts Centre Melbourne Spire, 6/2 St Kilda Road, Southbank; no hotel pickups
The best-reviewed lunch-included tour on this page. Yering Station first, then a two-course lunch (shared antipasto, then your own main, with a glass of wine) at Soumah or occasionally Tokar Estate, a third tasting at the boutique Helen and Joey Estate, and a fourth stop of your choosing: a small winery such as Payten and Jones, or for A$10 more a Four Pillars gin tasting or Watts River Brewing (Thursday to Monday). The Chocolaterie closes the day, with entry included and the chocolate at your own cost. Groups are capped at 20 and one host drives and guides all day.
Dancing Kangaroo has been Melbourne owned and operated since 2015, run by its founder Sean from an office on A'Beckett Street. The price at our link matches the operator's own, but its site publishes a code worth A$10, and from 1 November both go up by A$10. Its direct cancellation terms are the strictest on this page outside Chillout's standard fare.
What travellers loved
- Four hosted tastings with every tasting fee included, plus a two-course winery lunch with wine, for A$179 on weekdays
- Maximum 20 guests, with the gin or beer swap for A$10
- No booking fees or card surcharges direct, and a A$10 code on the operator's site
Know before you book
- Adults only, 18 to 80 at our link
- A$10 more at weekends and A$10 more again from 1 November
- Booked direct, even a cancellation with a week's notice loses 5 percent
- In the quieter months a departure needs minimum numbers; the operator says it will tell you at least two days before
Best for: Couples and small groups who want lunch and all tastings in one price without a big coach.

Yarra Valley Wine Day Tour · De Bortoli, Lunch at Yering Station, Max 11
Vinetrekker Wine Tours · Pickup from Melbourne city hotels, or meet at the Athenaeum Theatre, 188 Collins Street; the operator confirms the arrangement the afternoon before
The premium day, at nearly twice the price of the next tour here, and the only one in Mercedes vehicles sized to the group, from a sedan to a Sprinter, with a maximum of 11. The standard itinerary is De Bortoli with a wine and cheese flight, Yering Station for the tasting and a restaurant main course with a glass of wine and coffee, then Coldstream Hills and Medhurst. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, when some of those are closed, the operator substitutes Punt Road, Oakridge, Helen and Joey or Dominique Portet. Hotel pickup is included, with the route set the afternoon before.
Vinetrekker has run from South Melbourne since 2004. What you are paying for over the A$185 to A$216 lunch-included tours is the smaller vehicle, the restaurant rather than a shared platter, and the choice of cellar doors, two of which (Coldstream Hills and Medhurst) no other tour on this page visits. The price is identical at our link and direct, and Sundays cost A$20 more either way.
What travellers loved
- Maximum 11 in a Mercedes, with hotel pickup
- A restaurant main at Yering Station and a wine and cheese flight at De Bortoli included in A$340
- The only tour here to visit Coldstream Hills and Medhurst
Know before you book
- The dearest tour on the page, and A$20 more on Sundays and public holidays
- Booked direct, a minimum of two people and cancellation fees inside 48 hours
- The Tuesday and Wednesday itinerary is different from the one advertised
- Not suitable for infants
Best for: Couples who want the restaurant lunch, a small vehicle and serious cellar doors, and will pay for it.

Afternoon Foodies Tour · Chandon, Yering Station, Sunset Kangaroos, Max 12
The Yarra Valley Touring Co · Meet at the Federation Square bus and coach zone on Russell Street Extension, corner of Flinders Street; no hotel pickups
The only afternoon departure on this page, and the only tour built around something other than the wine: a sunset kangaroo safari in the lower valley that the operator backs with a 100 percent money-back guarantee if you do not see wild kangaroos. Before that, strawberries at a farm gate, cheese at Coldstream Dairy, a glass of sparkling at Chandon with time to buy lunch from the lounge menu, a tasting at Yering Station and a private chocolate tasting at the Chocolaterie. Groups are capped at 12, which the operator says is why it can get a Chandon booking that big-bus tours cannot.
The Yarra Valley Touring Company is owned by Craig Cooney, based in Lilydale, who the site says has guided in the valley for more than 15 years. The price is the same at our link and direct until 30 November, when ours rises to A$210, and the operator's site advertises a A$20 code. Autopia sells a tour that matches this one stop for stop; see the FAQ.
What travellers loved
- Sunset wild kangaroos with a money-back guarantee, plus Chandon, Yering Station, cheese and chocolate for A$195
- Maximum 12, departing at a civilised 11:30am
- Children from 2 welcome, with a child fare
Know before you book
- Lunch is at your own cost, bought from Chandon's lounge menu
- One full wine tasting (Yering Station) and one glass at Chandon: a foodies afternoon, not a four-winery day
- A$15 more at our link from 1 December, and A$20 less direct with the code on the operator's site
- Back in the city as late as 7:30pm
Best for: Visitors who want the kangaroos as much as the wine, families with children, and anyone who hates early starts.

Red Route Hop-On Hop-Off from Melbourne · Transport Only, Tastings Extra
Hop It · Meet at the Grand Hyatt's Russell Street entrance, 123 Collins Street, or join at Lilydale station, 123 Main Street, Lilydale
Not a guided tour at all, and the cheapest way on this page to spend a day in the valley without driving. Hop It's bus loops the Red Route every hour from 11:05am, calling at Coombe Estate, Helen and Joey, St Huberts, Meletos and Punt Road, Domaine Chandon, Oakridge, Tokar, Dominique Portet, Rochford and Levantine Hill, Pimpernel, Riverstone, Soumah, Giant Steps and the Four Pillars and Payten and Jones stop, with Yarra Yering by request. You plan your own day, four stops at most, and the operator's own timetable marks most venues as booking required, so you ring ahead. Nothing is included beyond the seat, commentary, water and a storage box for your purchases. The Green Route (Yering Station, Yarra Valley Dairy, the Chocolaterie, Balgownie, De Bortoli and others) is the same price.
It is the one product here cheaper at our link than direct: A$93 against A$98.02 with fees on the operator's booking engine. Hop It Pty Ltd won gold at the 2024 Victorian Tourism Awards and is the only hop-on hop-off service in Victoria. It has no Google Business profile we could find, so it is scored on Tripadvisor and Viator only.
What travellers loved
- The cheapest seat to the valley on this page at A$93, with Lilydale pickup for train travellers
- Pick your own cellar doors from 17 Red Route stops, with an hourly loop
- Cheaper at our link than on the operator's own site
Know before you book
- Transport only: add A$15 to A$35 a stop in tasting fees, plus lunch, and book the venues yourself
- Four stops maximum, and a missed bus costs you an hour
- Adults only, 18 and over
- No refund if you book direct; several venues are closed on Mondays or Wednesdays
Best for: Independent travellers who know which cellar doors they want and would rather pay per tasting than for a guide.

Yarra Valley Winery Tour · Chandon, Lunch at Soumah, Squitchy Lane, Yering Farm
Chillout Travel · Meet at the Grand Hyatt's Russell Street entrance, 9:30am; the operator's site also lists pickups in Nunawading, Ringwood, Chirnside Park, Lilydale and Coldstream between 9:10 and 10:45am
The one tour here that starts at Domaine Chandon with a sparkling tasting, which the operator's page says it can book because it keeps its groups small: a maximum of 11 guests, and at most six seats per booking so no single party dominates. Then Soumah for a shared two-course antipasti-style lunch with a glass of wine, Squitchy Lane, and Yering Farm for wine and cider. Everything you taste and eat is in the fare, and the operator's platform listing has no exclusions at all.
It is also the tour where our link costs you most. Chillout's own site sells the same day for A$169, A$47 under A$216 here. The catch is the terms: the direct standard fare must be paid in full and the site publishes no refund right for it, so a 24-hour free cancellation costs A$50 more direct, which still leaves it A$3 ahead of our link with better pickups. Chillout Travel Tours Pty Ltd runs from Clarendon Street, South Melbourne.
What travellers loved
- Domaine Chandon's sparkling tasting plus three wineries and a two-course Soumah lunch with wine, nothing extra on the day
- Maximum 11 guests and six seats per booking
- Pickups in the eastern suburbs and the valley itself if you book direct
Know before you book
- A$47 cheaper booked direct than at our link, but non-refundable unless you pay A$50 more
- Adults only, 18 to 75 at our link
- Too few Google reviews to count toward its score, so it is rated on Tripadvisor and Viator only
- Office closed on public holidays, by the operator's site
Best for: Travellers who want Chandon and a proper lunch included, and will book direct for the saving.

Yarra Valley Day Tour · Four Wineries, A La Carte Lunch at Balgownie
Australian Wine Tour Company · Four city pickups: 9:20am Savoy Hotel, 630 Little Collins Street; 9:30am Immigration Museum, 400 Flinders Street; 9:40am QV, 210 Lonsdale Street; 9:45am 201 Spring Street
The longest-running operator here, founded in 1998 by Matthew Noble and a Victorian Tourism Award winner in 2004, with the most straightforward product: four wineries, four tastings, an a la carte lunch at Balgownie Estate with a glass of wine, tea or coffee, and nothing to pay on the day. The four come from a list of six (Yering Farm, Soumah, Greenstone, Rochford, Tokar and Balgownie) and the line-up varies by date; the platform listing names Greenstone, Balgownie, Yering Farm and Soumah. There is no gin, chocolate or cheese stop, which some will count as a plus.
The pickups are the most convenient here: four fixed city points rather than one meeting place. On group size the operator's own pages disagree, the tour page saying numbers are limited to 24 with a typical 12 to 20 aboard and the FAQ saying a maximum of 8 on daily public tours; at our link you can book up to 8 seats. The price is the same at our link and direct, and the same every day of the week, which only three tours here can say.
What travellers loved
- Four winery tastings and an a la carte winery lunch with wine, with no weekend surcharge, for A$185
- Four city pickup points, 9:20 to 9:45am
- Running since 1998, the same price at our link and direct
Know before you book
- The operator's own pages give the group size as both 'limited to 24' and 'maximum of 8'; ask if it matters
- No child fare published on the operator's site; the A$145 child fare is at our link
- 48 hours' notice to cancel if you book direct, and a card surcharge
- The lowest Google rating on this page, on a small sample
Best for: First-time visitors who want a classic winery day with lunch and a pickup near their hotel, at a fixed price.
Details change. We verify every price, duration, departure point and inclusion against the operator's own website, and we date every check, but operators can change them at any time without notice. Always confirm the details that matter to you with the operator before you book.
Good to know
Which tours include lunch?
Dancing Kangaroo (a shared antipasto then your own main, with a glass of wine, at Soumah or Tokar Estate), Australian Wine Tour Company (a la carte main at Balgownie Estate with a glass of wine, tea or coffee), Vinetrekker (a main course at Yering Station's restaurant with a glass of wine and coffee) and Chillout (a shared two-course spread at Soumah with a glass of wine). Go West includes wood-fired pizza with its gin tasting at Stag Lane Distillery, which is lunch in practice, and free time in Healesville if you want more. Teepee and Red Carpet stop at Quarters at Hubert Estate, or Chandon if you book it yourself, and you pay for what you order; Teepee's own page suggests A$20 to A$30. The Yarra Valley Touring Co gives you a glass of sparkling at Chandon and time to buy food from the lounge menu. On Hop It you buy everything.
Are tasting fees included?
On every tour here except Hop It, yes, and most say so in as many words. The fees are real: Yering Station's cellar door, which five of these tours visit, charges A$15 a person for its Village range, A$20 for Yarrabank and Estate wines and A$35 for Single Vineyard and Reserve, waives the fee if you buy wine, and adds 10 percent on Sundays and 15 percent on public holidays. Hop It's ticket is transport only, so on a four-stop day you should budget A$15 to A$35 a stop on top of the fare, and book the venues yourself, because its own timetable marks most of them as booking required.
Which tours are adults only?
Red Carpet (its terms say every public-tour guest must be over 18, although its booking engine sells a 'person over 6 years' fare), Dancing Kangaroo's Epic day (18 to 80 at our link), Chillout (18 to 75) and Hop It (18 and over). Teepee sells a child fare for ages 0 to 17 and Australian Wine Tour Company one for ages 5 to 15 at our links. Vinetrekker takes children from 4 (not infants) and the Yarra Valley Touring Co from 2, and Go West has no age limit. The wine is for over-18s everywhere, obviously; the question is whether the bus will take the rest of the family.
Is it cheaper to book direct?
Usually. Chillout is the widest gap: A$169 on its own site against A$216 at our link, a A$47 difference, though the direct fare is non-refundable unless you pay A$50 more for a Fully Flexible ticket. Red Carpet is A$109 on weekdays direct against A$129 at our link. Teepee is A$110.73 direct, fees included, against A$129. Dancing Kangaroo and the Yarra Valley Touring Co match our price on their own sites but publish discount codes worth A$10 and A$20. Australian Wine Tour Company, Go West (by phone) and Vinetrekker are the same price either way. Hop It is the exception: A$92.95 at our link against A$98.02 direct with fees. Booked direct, you are on the operator's cancellation terms, and several of these are stricter than the 24 hours at our links.
Do prices change at weekends or over Christmas?
Yes, on more than half of them. At our links Teepee is A$11 more on Saturdays and Sundays, Red Carpet A$6 more (and A$160 to A$200 a seat from 19 December to 10 January), Dancing Kangaroo A$10 more at weekends and A$10 more again from 1 November, and Vinetrekker A$20 more on Sundays and public holidays. The Yarra Valley Touring Co rises from A$195 to A$210 on 1 December. Australian Wine Tour Company, Go West, Chillout and Hop It charge the same every day. Every fare on this page is the weekday adult fare at our link, and the price note on each listing gives the rest.
What are the half-day and afternoon options?
If a full day is too much, Local Way Tours runs a five-hour, three-winery half day from the Arts Centre (A$125 on weekdays, A$135 at weekends at our link, morning or afternoon departures, no lunch, adults only), and Dancing Kangaroo sells a relaxed half day from 11:45am for A$119 and a cheaper full day, the Amazing tour, from A$119 to A$129 at our link with lunch at your own cost. The Yarra Valley Touring Co's foodies tour on this page is itself an afternoon departure, leaving Federation Square at 11:30am. We ranked the full-day products because that is what most people searching for a Yarra Valley wine tour mean, and because the half days have fewer reviews to score on.
Can I just drive, or take the train?
You can, and for a designated driver it is cheaper, but the valley is spread out and the cellar doors are not walkable from each other. Lilydale station is the end of the suburban line, and Hop It picks up there at 10:55am for A$76.93, which is the cheapest way to tour without a car and without a driver. With a car, tasting fees of A$15 to A$35 a cellar door (often waived with a purchase) and a booking at the venues that require one are the only costs, and the person driving tastes nothing. What a tour buys is the drinking, the venue bookings made for you and someone else on the Maroondah Highway at 5pm.
Which tours did you leave out, and why?
Autopia Tours sells a Yarra Valley afternoon with Chandon, Coldstream Dairy, Yering Station, the Chocolaterie and sunset kangaroos for A$195, departing the Federation Square bus terminal at 11:30am with a maximum of 12 guests. That is the Yarra Valley Touring Co's tour stop for stop, same price, same bay, same time, and Autopia's product has 40 reviews to the other's 300. Neither operator's website says whether one runs the other's bus, so rather than rank the same seats twice we have listed the one with its own money-back kangaroo guarantee and more evidence. Vinetrekker's wildlife and wine day (A$350) and the balloon-and-wine packages were left out because they are a different day. Gauci and Co, Around and About Travel and Melbourne Valley Wine Tours have too few reviews to score fairly yet. Private tours are not join-in products.
How do you make money from this page, and where does it cost you?
We earn a commission when you book through the Viator links, at no extra cost to you, and nothing when you book direct. Several sentences on this page cost us money and stay in. Five operators are cheaper on their own websites than at our links, one of them by A$47. Driving yourself, or Hop It from Lilydale, is cheaper than any guided tour here. We have said all of it because the premise of this site is that the facts are right, not that they favour us.
