The Hunter Valley is a long day trip from Sydney. Every tour on this page collects you in the city between 6:35 and 8:00am and has you back between 5:30 and 7:00pm, so a quarter of the day is spent on the road whichever you choose. What differs is what happens in between, and what the price really covers. We read each operator's own website, booking engine and terms on 6 October 2026, and looked each one up on the Australian Business Register.
Start with the sticker prices, because two of them mislead. The cheapest fare you will see, A$125, carries a compulsory A$70 paid to the guide on the day, plus tasting fees and lunch; the real cost is A$195, or A$240 with everything, and we list it at A$195. The other surprise is a tour sold under four names: Activity Tours, Boutique Tours Australia, Wildlife Tours Australia and Autopia all sell seats on the same 7am departure for the same A$249, and we rank it once.
Lunch is included on five of the six, from a chef cooking on site to a two-course hotel lunch with paired wines. Only two run every day: one goes Mondays and Wednesdays only, and the others skip at least one day a week. Booking direct is cheaper on Colourful Collective by A$10 to A$40, cheaper with a published code on Activity Tours and Brighton Tours, and the same price on the other three, and each listing says by how much.

Chef-Led Hunter Valley Food and Wine Day · Breakfast and Lunch Cooked On Site, Max 16
Gourmet Getaway Tours · Door-to-door pickup from seven named Sydney CBD hotels and the Sydney Fish Market; Mondays and Wednesdays only
The only tour here built around the food rather than the cellar doors. Your driver and guide is also the chef, and cooks a light breakfast on arrival in the valley and then lunch on site, with each dish matched to the wines you taste at three boutique wineries. The operator does not name the wineries on its own site; it says only that they are hand-picked. Pickups start at 6:35am at the Metro Hotel Marlow near Central and finish at 7:10am at the Sydney Fish Market, and the operator aims to have you back around 6:30pm, so it is the longest day on this page even though its own site calls it up to 11 hours.
It runs on Mondays and Wednesdays only, with 2 to 16 guests. Gourmet Getaway Tours Pty Ltd has run since 2018 and holds no other trading names on the business register. The fare is the same at our link and direct, and it is the dearest seat here, but nothing on the day costs extra: breakfast, lunch and the tastings are all in.
What travellers loved
- Breakfast and a matched lunch cooked by your chef-guide, three tastings, for A$297 all in
- Door-to-door pickups from city hotels
- Children from 4 welcome, with a A$277 child fare (no alcohol for under 18s)
Know before you book
- Mondays and Wednesdays only
- The longest day here: first pickup 6:35am, back about 6:30pm
- The wineries are not named in advance on the operator's site
- The dearest fare on this page
Best for: Food lovers who want lunch to be the event, and families with children who can ride along.

Hunter Valley Wildlife and Wine · Koala Encounter, Cheese, Two Tastings, Max 11
Kangarrific Tours · Barlow Street near Central Station at our link (the operator's own site does not publish a meeting point)
The fare on the booking page is A$125, the lowest on this page by a distance, and it is not the price. The listing at our link says the A$70 wildlife experience, tour taxes and insurance fee must be paid directly to your guide on the day, and that wine tasting fees and lunch are extra. Booked direct, the operator charges A$195 with park entry and the koala encounter included, and A$240 with the tastings and lunch. The day itself is the most varied here: a stop at a wildlife park with the operator's own ranger for a koala meet and greet and kangaroo feeding, a cheese, chocolate and olive oil tasting, and two boutique wineries.
It runs in a minibus with a maximum of 11 guests. The operator's own booking engine sold only Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in October, while our link shows every day, so check your date with the operator. Kangarrific Pty Ltd was registered in 2009; the business name Kangarrific Tours is registered to an individual's ABN, and the operator's site names neither the company nor the wildlife park.
What travellers loved
- The only tour with a wildlife park and a koala encounter, from A$195 all in
- Maximum 11 guests in a minibus
- A child fare (A$180 direct), and wheelchair storage on request
Know before you book
- A$70 of the fare is paid to the guide on the day, on top of the A$125 at our link
- Two tastings, not three or four, and those fees (A$15) and lunch (A$30) are extra
- The operator's own calendar showed Monday, Wednesday and Friday departures only
- Booked direct, no refund inside 3 days or for wet weather
Best for: Visitors who want koalas and kangaroos as much as the wine, on the lowest real fare here.

Taste of the Hunter · Three Wineries, Distillery, Cheese, Chocolate and Lunch, Daily
Dave's Tours · Pickups at 7:25am St Laurence Church, 812 George Street (Central), 7:35am Sheraton Grand (161 Elizabeth Street), 7:45am the Obelisk, Macquarie Place (Circular Quay) and 7:50am Sydney Harbour Marriott (30 Pitt Street)
The broadest tasting card on this page: three boutique wineries, one paired with cheese and one with chocolate, plus a spirits tasting at a local distillery (gin, vodka, schnapps and liqueurs, by the booking engine's notes) and a one-course restaurant lunch with a glass of wine, beer or cider. The booking notes add a behind-the-scenes production tour at one winery, for which closed-toe shoes are required. No venue is named in advance; the operator says they change with opening days and availability, and the guide tells you the lunch venue on the day.
It runs daily, with up to six per booking, and the pickups finish at the Marriott at 7:50am, the latest start here. Dave's Travel Group Pty Ltd, which books the tour, has been registered since 2018. Booked direct the fare is the same A$285, but the operator's own pages give three different cancellation policies, from a 48-hour default on its booking engine to no refund inside 14 days in its FAQ, so our link's 24-hour full refund is the clearer deal.
What travellers loved
- Three wineries, a distillery, cheese, chocolate and lunch with a drink for A$285
- Runs every day, with the latest pickup on this page (7:50am)
- A behind-the-scenes winery production tour
Know before you book
- No venues named in advance, lunch included
- Back about 7:00pm, a long day
- Closed-toe shoes needed for the production tour
- Direct cancellation terms contradict each other; at our link it is 24 hours
Best for: Couples and small groups who want the most tastings in one day, on any day of the week.

Hunter Valley Wine and Cheese Day · Three Boutique Wineries, Cafe Lunch, Max 14
Activity Tours · Pickups at 7:00am Mercure Sydney Central (818 George Street, Little Regent Street side), 7:20am Hilton (255 Pitt Street), 7:35am Four Seasons (rear entrance, Harrington Street) and 7:45am Paradox Sydney (27 O'Connell Street); Monday to Saturday
The most widely sold Hunter Valley day out of Sydney, and you may meet it under other names. Activity Tours Australia Pty Ltd also trades as Boutique Tours Australia, and Wildlife Tours Australia's own page says its Hunter Valley tour is operated in partnership with Activity Tours; Autopia, Wildlife Tours' sister brand, sells the same itinerary from the same 7am meeting point. All four charge A$249. We rank it once, under the name of the company that runs it.
The day is three tastings chosen from a list of smaller cellar doors (Saddlers Creek, Hanging Tree, Ernest Hill, Tulloch, McLeish, Calais, Savannah, Irongate and Allandale), a cheese tasting, and a cafe lunch the operator values at over A$20 with a glass of wine or soft drink. Groups are capped at 14 and it runs Monday to Saturday, not Sundays. The operator shows NSW Tourism Awards bronze badges for 2021 and 2024; its booking page also claims a 'Best Hunter Valley Tour Operator' title four years running without naming who awarded it, so we have not repeated it.
What travellers loved
- Three tastings, a cheese tasting and a cafe lunch with a drink, for A$249 all in
- Four city pickup points between 7:00 and 7:45am
- Up to 14 guests, so the same small vans as the boutique operators
Know before you book
- No Sunday departures, and none on 24 to 26 or 31 December or 1 January
- A$10 cheaper direct with the code direct26, but direct cancellations need 48 hours
- Adults only (18 and over)
- The same seats are sold as Boutique Tours Australia, Wildlife Tours Australia and Autopia; see the FAQ
Best for: First-timers who want a classic three-winery day with lunch included at a mid-range price.

Hunter Valley Day Tour · Two Wineries, Two-Course Lunch With Wine, Chocolate
Brighton Tours (Gray Line partner) · Central Station Western Forecourt, Coach Bay 8, or the Furama Darling Harbour, with pickups from 19 named CBD hotels; at our link, no hotel pickup if you book after 3pm the day before
The big-coach option, and the only one that suits a whole family. Two wineries of the kind on the postcards (the operator names Audrey Wilkinson and Mount Pleasant, 'or similar'), a two-course lunch with Hunter red and white wines paired to each course, usually at voco Kirkton Park, and a chocolate tasting at a Hunter Valley chocolate maker. It leaves at 8am, the latest start here, and is back about 5:30pm, the earliest finish.
Brighton Coach Pty Ltd, based in Turrella, describes itself as an authorised Gray Line partner agency, which is the name it sells under on our link; it is not the Gray Line company of the same name registered in Victoria. Its fleet runs from 10-seat vans to 54-seat coaches, and its FAQ caps day tours at 55, so expect a full coach. In October it ran Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday only. Our link is A$12 cheaper than the operator's list fare, though its own 10 percent code would undercut us.
What travellers loved
- A two-course lunch with paired wines and two wineries for A$220, the lowest all-in fare with lunch included
- All ages, with a child fare and infants free
- 8am departure and back by about 5:30pm, the shortest day here
Know before you book
- Two wineries, not three, both 'or similar'
- A coach tour: day tours run with up to 55 guests
- Not daily: no Monday or Thursday departures in October
- Booked direct, a 1.5 percent card surcharge and cancellation terms that contradict each other
Best for: Families with children, and anyone who wants a shorter, simpler day with a proper lunch.

Premium Hunter Valley Wine Day · Three Cellar Doors, Production Tour, Gin and Lunch
Colourful Collective Travel · 7:15am The Ultimo Sydney (37 Ultimo Road, Haymarket), 7:30am Bathurst Street taxi zone by St Andrew's Cathedral, or 7:45am Loftus Street by the Obelisk, Macquarie Place; you choose one when booking
Three cellar doors, one with a behind-the-scenes look at how the wine is made, a stop at a small distillery for gin and limoncello, a final tasting paired with cheese and chocolate, and a sit-down lunch with a glass of wine or beer. The operator does not name the wineries on its own pages, and it describes lunch two ways: two courses on its website and at our link, one course in its booking engine. A cheaper version of the same day with lunch at your own cost is sold separately, and the operator puts lunch at about A$20 to A$40.
This is the clearest case on the page for booking direct. The operator's own refundable fare is A$289, below our A$299, and its site advertises a 10 percent code on refundable fares, which would take it to about A$260; its non-refundable Saver fare is A$259. Up to 10 per booking, 18 and over, closed-toe shoes for the production tour. The bookings are taken by Taeho Pty Ltd, which also trades as Zepher Tours and Beyond Blue Mountains.
What travellers loved
- Three cellar doors, a distillery, cheese and chocolate and lunch with a drink, from A$284.05
- A behind-the-scenes winery production tour
- Three pickup points, Central, Town Hall and Circular Quay
Know before you book
- A$10 cheaper direct on the refundable fare, more with the code on the operator's site
- Lunch is two courses or one, depending on which of the operator's pages you read
- Wineries not named in advance
- Closed-toe shoes required; adults only (18 and over)
Best for: Travellers who want a winery production tour and lunch included, and who will book direct to save.
Details change. We verify every price, duration, departure point and inclusion against the operator's own website, and we date every check, but operators can change them at any time without notice. Always confirm the details that matter to you with the operator before you book.
Good to know
Which tours include lunch?
Five of the six. Gourmet Getaway's chef-guide cooks breakfast and lunch on site. Brighton Tours serves a two-course lunch with paired red and white wines, usually at voco Kirkton Park. Activity Tours includes a cafe lunch the operator values at over A$20, with a glass of wine or soft drink. Dave's Tours includes a one-course restaurant lunch with a glass of wine, beer or cider. Colourful Collective's premium day includes lunch with a glass of wine or beer, described as two courses on its website and one course in its booking engine. Kangarrific sells lunch with a drink as an optional A$30 extra, and Colourful Collective's cheaper day tour leaves lunch to you at about A$20 to A$40 by the operator's estimate.
Why is the A$125 tour listed at A$195?
Because that is what it costs. Kangarrific's listing at our link is A$125, but it excludes a A$70 fee for the wildlife experience, tour taxes and insurance that must be paid directly to the guide on the day, and it excludes wine tasting fees and lunch. Booked direct, the operator charges A$195 with the wildlife park and koala encounter included, and says the all-inclusive day is A$240 with A$15 of tasting fees and a A$30 lunch. Our prices are all in, so we list the tour at A$195 and say what else you may want to pay for. Every other price on this page is the full fare at our link.
Why is one tour sold under four different names?
Activity Tours Australia Pty Ltd runs it. Its booking terms say it trades as Boutique Tours Australia, Boutique Wine Tours, Boutique Mountain Tours and Boutique Wildlife Tours, and both brands' booking pages run from the same Rezdy account with the same phone number. Wildlife Tours Australia, a brand of the Melbourne company Get Lost Travel, says on its own page that its Hunter Valley tour is operated in partnership with Activity Tours, and Get Lost Travel's other brand, Autopia, sells the identical itinerary from the same 7am pickup with the same sold-out dates. All four charge A$249. We rank it once, as Activity Tours, and left the three resellers out rather than list the same seat four times. If you want it, Activity Tours' own code direct26 takes A$10 off for travel to 20 December 2026; booked direct, cancellations need 48 hours' notice, against 24 at our link.
Which days do the tours run?
Dave's Tours and Colourful Collective run every day. Activity Tours runs Monday to Saturday and not on 24 to 26 or 31 December or 1 January. Brighton Tours ran Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October. Gourmet Getaway runs Mondays and Wednesdays only. Kangarrific's own booking engine offered only Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in October, although our link shows every day, so check your date with the operator before relying on it.
Is it cheaper to book direct?
Without a code, only on one. Colourful Collective is A$289 direct on its refundable fare against A$299 at our link (A$284.05 at our link if you book by 8 October), A$259 on its non-refundable fare, and its site shows a 10 percent code for refundable fares. With a code, two more: Activity Tours is A$10 cheaper direct with direct26, and Brighton Tours' 10 percent code brings its A$232 direct fare to about A$209, A$11 under ours, before a 1.5 percent card surcharge. Gourmet Getaway, Dave's Tours and Kangarrific cost the same either way, though Gourmet Getaway advertises A$20 off with a wine-student ticket we could not price. Brighton Tours without its code is A$12 dearer direct than at our link. The trade is cancellation: every tour refunds in full up to 24 hours ahead at our links (Kangarrific two days), while direct terms run from 24 hours to 14 days, and several operators publish more than one version.
Can children or teenagers come?
On two tours easily. Brighton Tours takes all ages, with a child fare for ages 3 to 14 (A$200 at our link) and infants free; from 15 it charges the adult fare. Gourmet Getaway takes children from 4 at A$277. Kangarrific sells a child fare direct (A$180, age band not stated) and its listing at our link takes children from 8. Activity Tours and Colourful Collective are 18 and over. Dave's Tours is 18 and over at our link, and its own FAQ says under-18s need written permission and a guardian. Nobody under 18 is served alcohol on any of them.
Which tours did you leave out, and why?
Boutique Tours Australia, Wildlife Tours Australia and Autopia, because they sell the same departure as Activity Tours (see above). Colourful Collective's cheaper day tour without lunch, because it is the same itinerary as the premium day we rank; it is A$229 at our link and A$199 to A$229 direct. Mate Tours (36 reviews) and Sightseeing Tours Australia (33 reviews), both averaging below 4.4 across platforms, which we did not take further, and Coast to Cork, with too few reviews to score. Two Fat Blokes and the other operators based in the Hunter, because they do not leave from Sydney, and every private tour, because this page compares seats you can book on your own.
How do you make money from this page, and where does it cost you?
We earn a commission when you book through the Viator links, at no extra cost to you, and nothing when you book direct. Several sentences on this page cost us money and stay in: one operator is cheaper on its own site and two more are with a published code, one tour's headline fare at our link is A$70 short of what you will pay, and we tell you which tours cost the same either way. Ranks come from review evidence, not commission.
